Astragalus «Favorite» / Astragalus dasyanthus Pall - is a perennial herb from the legume family. It reaches a height of 40 cm. Its stems are numerous, erect, even slightly rising.

The stems, leaves, flowers and even the fruits of astragalus woolly-flowered seem fluffy, with a bluish tinge. Natural reserves of this type of raw materials in Ukraine are insignificant. Half of them grow in protected areas. The species is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine.

Medicinal raw material is dry grass collected in the phase of mass flowering.

Astragalus woollyflora herb preparations dilate blood vessels and have calming properties. Infusion of herbs promotes antispasmodic, cardiotonic action, improves general and organic hemodynamics. A decoction and infusion of herbs are used in the initial forms of hypertension.

The yield of dry raw materials (grass) of the Favorit variety is 37 kg / ha, the content of the total triterpene glycosides is 2.4%. Plants have high drought and winter hardiness. The variety is suitable for mechanized harvesting. The vegetation period of plants during the 2nd year of vegetation is 110 days.

The leaves are alternate, trifoliate, petiolate, broadly lanceolate, entire, pubescent with leathery, persistent stipules, located mainly on the middle and upper parts of the stem. The inflorescence is an elongated, slightly branched, many-flowered raceme.

The color of the stems is brownish-gray, the leaves are grayish-greenish, the flowers are yellow.

The grass of the plant contains flavonoids, tannins, steroids, organic acids. It also contains a large amount of iron, essential oil, vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, manganese and sodium. It also contains silicon, magnesium and other trace elements. Astragalus can selectively accumulate selenium.

Collection and preparation

Grass is harvested during mass flowering, before the formation of fruits. When harvesting the plant, the aerial part is cut off at a height of five to seven centimeters from the surface of the earth. Dry in the air and in a room that is well ventilated.

In medical practice, an infusion of the herb astragalus woolly is allowed for use. Especially effective is the use of infusion of the herb astragalus woolly-flowered in the initial stages of hypertension and in chronic cardiovascular insufficiency with a tendency to spasms of the coronary vessels, as well as acute and chronic nephritis.

An infusion of Astragalus woolly-flowered herb contributes to the expansion of the vessels of the brain and peripheral vessels, which significantly improves blood circulation, indicators of general and intracardiac hemodynamics, and also saturates the internal organs with oxygen. It is good for them to treat angina pectoris, it is recommended for patients suffering from vascular diseases and kidney diseases. Astragalus herb infusion is used to rinse the mouth and throat, it is quite effective for sore throat, periodontal disease, stomatitis and other inflammatory processes.

For a long time, astragalus has been used to normalize the coagulation and anticoagulation function of the blood, normalize capillary blood flow and reduce capillary constriction, relieves shortness of breath and cyanosis, and increases diuresis in patients. Woolly-flowered astragalus is used in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, diabetes and bronchial asthma, lung diseases, eczema and psoriasis, as well as in many types of oncological pathologies, in particular leukemia, myeloma.
