Treacle mustard «Father's memory» / Erysimum diffusum - a biennial plant widely used in folk and traditional medicine; has a beneficial effect on the central nervous and cardiovascular systems, is used in the treatment of  angina pectoris, arrhythmias and other diseases.

Spreading treacle mustard (swamp, grayish jaundice, scattered or graying) is one of the plants of the genus treacle mustard of the Cabbage family. For therapeutic purposes, treacle mustard «Solar» is also used.

The raw material of the spreading treacle mustard is the grass, which is harvested in the phase of mass flowering. Grass and seeds contain cardiac glycosides erizimin and erizimoside (2.0-6.0% in seeds and flowers, 1.0-1.5% in leaves, 0.5-0.7% in stem), organic acids (citric , wine stone, apple). In addition, valuable cardiac glycosides, as well as fatty oil, were found in the seeds. Glycozodes erizimin are used in acute and chronic insufficiency of the cardiovascular systems with severe circulatory disorders.

By the nature of the action on the heart, erizimin approaches strophanthus. The drug is cardiovalen, which contains the juice from the fresh herb of the spreading treacle mustard.

Since 2011, the Father's Memory variety has been included in the State Register of plant varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine. Direction of use - the pharmaceutical industry, medicinal.

The vegetative period of the variety from regrowth to seed maturation in the second year of vegetation is 110-112 days. The number of days from regrowth to full flowering is 55 days, the flowering period is 31 days.

Beneficial features

Spreading treacle mustard is called spas-grass or core. In folk medicine, the plant is used in the form of juice and for the preparation of decoctions, tinctures, infusions to improve the functioning of the heart: decoction - for tachycardia, arrhythmias, edema of cardiac origin; infusions - with rheumatic heart disease, angina pectoris, pain in the heart; tincture - to lower blood pressure and improve blood circulation.

Also, grayish treacle mustard can be used in the treatment of diseases of the genitourinary system. Infusions and decoctions prepared from the plant have a pronounced diuretic effect, they help to improve the functioning of the bladder and kidneys and reduce swelling. treacle mustard preparations can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other medicinal plants in the treatment of urolithiasis, cystitis, pyelonephritis and glomerulonephritis.

Spreading treacle mustard is used in the complex therapy of diseases of the musculoskeletal system - sciatica and rheumatic lesions of the joints. Since the plant has a calming effect on the central nervous system, it can be used for hysterical seizures, depression, neurosis, insomnia, stress, neurasthenia. The effect will be both with a single use of tincture / decoction, and during course therapy.

Pharmacological studies of disseminated treacle mustard were carried out at the Tomsk Medical Institute in 1940. The scientists came to the conclusion that treacle mustard glycosides are similar in pharmacological action to strophanthin, while they act somewhat slower and softer and less toxic. Preparations based on spreading treacle mustard have a cardiotonic and sedative effect due to eryzimin and erysimoside.

The plant is part of the drugs "Cardiovalen" (used in the treatment of rheumatic heart disease, vegetative neurosis, cardiosclerosis I and IIA stages, as well as angina occurring with organic changes in the vessels of the heart) and "Erisimin" (used in the treatment of hypertension, acute and chronic heart failure, atherosclerotic cardiosclerosis).

Spreading treacle mustard is indicated for use in the treatment of the following diseases:

• tachycardia, arrhythmia, edema of cardiac origin, rheumatic heart disease, angina pectoris, heart pain, arterial hypertension and other diseases of the cardiovascular system;
• urolithiasis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, glomerulonephritis and other diseases of the genitourinary system;
• sciatica, rheumatic joint damage and other diseases of the musculoskeletal system;
• hysterical seizures, depression, neurosis, insomnia, stress, neurasthenia and other diseases of the nervous system.
