American tulip tree known as the tulip tree, tulipwood, tuliptree, tulip poplar, whitewood, fiddletree, lynn-tree, hickory-poplar, and yellow-poplar / Liriodendron tulipifera - this magnificent large stately tree with a pyramidal crown is only suitable for large gardens as it can reach a height of 25 meters and a width of 15 meters. However, the tulip tree grows slowly and will reach this height in 70 years.

Lyriodendron received its generic name due to its rather large (up to 15 centimeters in length and about the same width) leaves, similar to a musical instrument - a lyre. When even a small breeze blows, the leaves flutter beautifully in the wind. In autumn, the foliage turns a bright golden yellow color.

And it is called a tulip tree because of the flowers that bloom from the end of May, which resemble tulips in shape and size.

Each flower reaches a diameter of 6 centimeters and consists of six erect yellow-green petals, as well as three reflexed sepals; there is an orange spot inside the flower. Flowers are located one at a time at the ends of the branches. For the first time, a tulip tree blooms very late - at the age of 20-35 years, although there are specimens that bloom already at 6-7 years of age. Therefore, they say that they plant liriodendon not for themselves, but for their children and grandchildren. After flowering, the plant produces spindle-shaped fruits 6-7 centimeters long.

If you wait for flowering and the formation of seeds (they ripen in October), then you can grow young plants without any problems - lyriodendron easily reproduces by seeds, and at an earlier age, cuttings can be separated from the mother plant every two years. The tulip tree also has very valuable wood.
