It is a low, dense hemispherical shrub. The bark is reddish-brown, the shoots are drooping, the ends are hanging down, filiform. The needles are green, scaly, pressed, slightly prickly, cones are spherical up to 0.6 cm in diameter. The root system becomes powerful and branched with age. The fruits are represented by small cones that ripen in a year.

Due to its small size, the shrub is suitable for container growing. Winter-hardy, photophilous. Grows well in full sun with little shade. Prefers relatively fertile and sufficiently moist soil.
