Balloon vine or balloon plant or love in a puff / Cardiospermum
One of the rare tropical, annual and openwork vines, Sapindaceae family. It grows in the tropics of India, Africa and South America. The height of the vine is 2 m. The inflorescences are small, white flowers. Light green «paper» inflated fruits - crackers give decorativeness to the plant. The seeds are large, black, with a white spot at the base, resembling a heart in shape.
Growing:
Cardiospermum is propagated by sowing seeds in open ground in May, to a depth of 2 cm. Seedlings appear after 15-20 days. Flowering and fruiting cardiospermum is very plentiful. It grows best in open sunny areas with loose soils. The plant needs a support, which is suitable for stretched twine. Used to decorate walls, hedges or fences, can be grown on a balcony.
Medicinal properties of cardiospermum, use
Liana has medicinal properties and is used in folk medicine for skin diseases. In South Africa, greens are used as an antirheumatic agent, as well as for violations of the functions of the respiratory and digestive systems. In Indian folk medicine, the roots are used as a mild laxative and diuretic, a decoction of the leaves is used against chronic bronchitis, rheumatism and tuberculosis, and the juice is used against ear pain. In skin diseases, it is effective against itching and peeling of the skin, eczema, with allergic reactions in the mucous membranes, the plant has an anti-inflammatory agent and is part of creams and ointments.
