Light requirements: sun or partial shade. Frost-resistant, wind-resistant, tolerates a haircut. It is used both when grown as individual specimens, and is suitable for growing in hedges.
When planting, you should observe the distance between plants from 0.5 to 3 meters, less often 5 meters. In a hedge with a two-row planting 0.5-0.7 meters, and with a single-row planting 0.4-0.5 meters. When planting alleys, it is recommended to observe an interval between trees of 4 meters. The planting depth is 60-80 cm. When planting, the soil of the following composition is desirable: soddy or leafy soil, peat, sand (2; 1; 1). Drainage with a layer of 15-20 cm is used on underlying clays.
Care consists in spring dressings, which are applied in a complex at the rate of 100-120 grams per 1 m2 only a year after planting. In the first month after planting, it is recommended to water once a week, 10 liters per plant, and also to carry out sprinkling.
In the dry season, watering 15-20 liters per plant and sprinkling twice a week. All arborvitae prefer moist soils in dry places and in the shade the crowns of trees begin to thin out. They loosen shallowly 8-10 cm, since the thuja has a superficial root system. It is recommended to mulch with peat or wood chips with a layer of 7 cm. Dry shoots are removed annually. For hedges, a moderate haircut of no more than 1/3 of the length of the shoot is used. Crown molding is carried out as needed.
