Melon «Piel de Sapo»
Literally translated “toad skin”, it is so named for the similarity in the color of the fruit. It is a rare variety native to the Canary Islands, with a characteristic uneven dark green skin with yellow stripes and "cracks". Sweet fruits reach a diameter of 20 cm and a weight of 2 kg. The taste is refreshing, juicy and very sweet. The flesh of the melon is dense, from pale green to cream in color.
Like the frog Princess, she will shed her skin, and under it will be excellent sweet, juicy fragrant white flesh with pink-orange hues. Ripe melon tastes like melted ice cream.
Piel de Sapo melons have only one drawback - they ripen too long. It is necessary to wait until they themselves become slightly soft, and the “ass” becomes softer, and so that the aroma appears. Then the melon will be ripe and tasty!
Sometimes these melons become soft, fragrant and tasty while still green, and sometimes when they turn completely yellow.
Consumption:
Piel De Sapo melon is recommended to be consumed fresh, as well as used for preparing fruit salads, snacks and desserts. This melon variety is highly valued for its excellent taste and long shelf life, which is why in Europe this melon is often called "Santa Claus melon" (Santa Claus melon) for its ability to be stored up to 1.5 months before Christmas.
