Black gooseberry «Cossack»

Variety of medium early maturity. Bush srednerosly, sprawling, average density. Growing shoots of medium thickness, straight or slightly curved, light green, sometimes with a weak anthocyanin color, hairless. Lignified shoots are thick, light.

The spines of the shoots are medium, the spines in the nodes are single, of medium length and thickness, straight, light-colored, directed upwards and located along the entire length of the shoot. The lower internodes are covered with spines. Buds oblong, medium size, with a pointed apex, dark brown, hairless, deviated from the shoot. The leaf scar is rounded.

A leaf of medium size or large, light green, shiny, hairless, with a smooth or slightly wrinkled surface, tender, concave. The teeth are medium, obtuse. The color of the main veins is absent. The leaf is three-five-lobed, the lobes are with deep narrow cuts, the middle one exceeds the lateral ones, its lateral margins are slightly rounded. The lateral lobes are medium in size, pointed, with upward directed tips; the angle between the veins of the lateral lobes is sharp. The veins of the basal lobes are open. The base of the leaf has a small or medium notch, the angle between the base of the plate and the petiole is acute, less often straight. The petiole is long, thick, with sparse glandular pubescence, located at an angle of 45° to the shoot.

Flowers of medium size, elongated, pale. Sepals are pale, separate, arranged horizontally, rarely slightly bent upwards. The brush is one-two-flowered. Ovary glabrous or very slightly pubescent with glandular hairs.

Berries of medium size (2.9-4.0 g), oval or slightly conical, dark purple, almost black when fully ripe, one-dimensional, hairless, with a waxy coating. Seeds are average. The skin is of medium thickness with weak venation, the veins are slightly branched, lighter than the main color. The calyx is large, semi-open or closed. The stalk is of medium length and thickness, green, at the base of the same color as the berry. The taste is sweet and sour, dessert (4.8 points). Chemical composition: soluble solids - 15.1%, total sugars - 12.2%, titratable acidity - 1.9%, ascorbic acid - 32.3-37.4 mg / 100 g, catechins - 265 mg / 100 g , pectins - 0.6%. Versatile berries.

The variety is highly winter-hardy, drought-resistant, average yield is 7.014.0 t/ha (2.1-4.2 kg/bush), is characterized by good self-fertility, and is highly resistant to American powdery mildew.
