Grape «Isabella» - it is a hybrid of two varieties (Latin names: Vitis Labrusca and Vitis Vinifera), which turned out in an absolutely natural way. This fruit is table-technical, which means that it is best to make drinks from berries than to consume them fresh. Accordingly, Isabella is a wine grape variety.
The berries are medium in size, have a black skin, which is covered with a specific wax coating on top. Rough skin retains tender flesh. The shape of the berries can be round or oval.
Isabella grapes bloom in small inflorescences that are prone to the formation of both pistils and stamens. The ripening period of this variety falls on October. Therefore, gardeners harvest from mid-October to early November. In warm regions, this grape begins to be harvested in late September. Since the Isabella grape is considered a late ripening variety, it is often used for landscaping the site.
The taste of ripe Isabella grapes resembles the taste of sweet strawberries. But the smell of such grapes is closer to the smell of wet fox hair. Sometimes winemakers call this variety "fox grapes". Therefore, Isabella grapes are not welcomed by everyone as a raw material for making wine, since the smell does not disappear. Others, on the contrary, consider this wine very attractive and unusual.
Distinctive features of this grape variety are the following:
- Isabella grapes, unlike other varieties, contain more anthocyanins and pectins, which enhance immunity and have a beneficial effect on overall health. Also, this variety helps in the shortest possible time to raise the level of hemoglobin in the blood.
- This grape is more unpretentious to weather conditions, easily crosses with other varieties. It is also characterized by high productivity and the ability to resist many diseases and pests.
- When making wine, during the fermentation of Isabella grapes, a large amount of methyl alcohol is formed, which is harmful to the body.
Isabella berries contain more calories than other grape varieties.
Planting: Seeds are stratified within 3-5 months. at low positive temperatures (2–3°С). The formation of cracks in the pits will indicate the readiness for germination of grapes from seeds. When abundant cracks appear on the required number of bones, you need to get them out of the refrigerator, spread them on wet gauze and cover with wet gauze on top. In this state, the seeds should be about a week. Moreover, here a very important point is the observance of the temperature regime (not lower than 15 ° C) and the constant maintenance of humidity. During this time, the seeds should germinate a little, after which they can be deepened into the ground.
The soil for grape seedlings is prepared loose, consisting of one part of sand and two parts of humus. It is important that the earth is not overdried. If the soil is dry, spray it well with a spray bottle, stirring gradually.
Now prepare containers for grape seeds (you can use either plastic cups or low boxes). Pour drainage to the bottom, then fill the container with earth. And to a depth of 1.5 cm, plant sprouted seedlings of grapes.
Please note that after sufficient development of the root system, the plant will need to be transplanted into a large pot. The need for a transplant will be indicated by the roots of the plant sticking out through the drainage. And in plastic cups, they will even be clearly visible through transparent walls.
Grapes grow quickly, but, as a rule, they will not give you fruits in the first year. Usually grapes begin their fruiting 2-3 years after planting. That is why the first two years the grapes do not require any special additives to the soil. He needs sand with humus and the periodic addition of compost to the soil.
