Lathyrus «Stepova 21»
An annual herbaceous plant from the legume family. The stalk of the chin is decumbent or straight, 30-50 cm or more high, glabrous, tetrahedral. The leaves of the plant are paired, oblong-lanceolate or lanceolate.
The inflorescence consists of one, in some cases two relatively large flowers of various colors - yellow, white, pink or blue-lilac. Flowers are arranged on long stalks. The plant is self-pollinating. The fruit is a two-winged pod with two or more, but not more than five, irregularly shaped seeds. Most often, the seeds are wedge-shaped, resembling a tooth in appearance.
China is relatively undemanding to soil culture. In addition, the rank is quite drought-resistant and has high frost resistance. Seedlings of the plant tolerate short-term frosts down to -6-8°C, which is much better than peas and lentils.
The growing season of the plant is about 110-115 days.
As top dressing, it is recommended to use fertilizers with a high content of phosphorus and potassium, since phosphorus accelerates flowering, increases yield, and potassium contributes to friendly flowering and more even ripening. An excess of nitrogen fertilizer leads to a more powerful development of the vegetative mass and uneven seed ripening.
Sowing is done very early in the spring in well-prepared soil in an ordinary way at a distance of about 20-30 cm from one row to another, sowing according to a 50 + 20 cm scheme is also possible (with distances in a row between plants of about 5-6 cm). The seeding rate is approximately 13-14 g/m2. Seeding depth on light soils - 6-8 cm, heavy - 4-5 cm.
Care consists in regular weeding, loosening, in dry weather, crops need watering. Chiny harvesting begins with yellowing of about 75% of the beans, left to ripen in rolls, and threshed. The yield of the rank is quite high - about 0.3-0.4 kg / m2.
Usage:
China is distributed mainly as a fodder and industrial crop, but it can also be used as a food crop. China is richer in proteins than peas, but worse in taste, and boils for a long time. As a fodder plant, the rank can be used not only for seeds, but also for green mass - in its raw state and as hay. As an industrial crop, chin seeds are used to obtain casein.
