Hay Fenugreek (mushroom grass) / Trigonella foenum-graecum
This is a great spicy plant that is widely used in popular seasoning mixes for home cooking (meat, fish, rice and vegetables).
It is a popular herb in the Arab regions and India. It has traditionally been used to enhance libido and masculinity. Is an aphrodisiac. Distinctive characteristics:
- This is an annual plant from the legume family (Fabaceae), which reaches a height of up to 40-60 cm.
- It is a herb with light green leaves and small white flowers.
- Forms beans with seeds that are rich in protein, iron, vitamins A and C.
- Seeds ripen in August-September.
- The seed pods contain 10-20 small, flat, yellow-brown, pungent and aromatic seeds.
- They are used in mixtures of popular seasonings (curry, suneli hops, etc.)
- Young sprouts of the plant are well suited for making fresh salads.
- Dry greens, as well as beans, are added to seasoning mixtures and used for cooking.
- Fenugreek seeds have a somewhat bitter taste, similar to celery, maple syrup, or burnt sugar, and are often used to make medicines. However, fenugreek has a much more pleasant flavor when cooked.
Fenugreek is undemanding to growing conditions. Sowing seeds in open ground is carried out on the light side of the site in late April-early May to a depth of 1.5-2 cm.
