Planting and growing in open ground
The plant loves fertile soils, from loams to chernozems of neutral or slightly alkaline reaction. For matthiola (another name for gillyflower), the seedling method is often used. Sow in boxes at the end of March in a mixture of sand and turf soil (1:3). The seeding depth is 0.5 cm. After 10-14 days, the seedlings are planted in separate pots/cups.
Seedlings are planted in June, preferably in the evening. The holes are filled with water so that the plants take root better. There is a 30 cm gap between the bushes. Water the matthiola 1-2 times a week with 5-7 liters of water, after which the soil is loosened. It would also be a good idea to fertilize with complex mineral fertilizers (1-2 times per season).
In autumn, the stems are cut and mulched with earth. You can dig up the roots and replant them in a home pot.
