Thuja western columnar / Thuja occidentalis columna
Tree 5-8 m high, crown diameter up to 1 m. Annual growth up to 30 cm in height, 5 cm wide, reaches 3 meters in height in ten years. The crown is columnar, dense. The needles are scaly, dark green, shiny, retaining color in winter.
Cones rare oblong-ovate, up to 1 cm long, brown. Used in single plantings, in groups, hedges, alleys. The roots are thin, dense, with mycorrhiza. It is not picky about soils, grows on both acidic and alkaline moist and fertile substrates, can tolerate dry soil and excessive moisture.
Light requirements: sun or partial shade. Frost-resistant, wind-resistant, tolerates a haircut. It is used both when grown as individual specimens, and is suitable for growing in hedges.
