Arizona cypress / Cupressus arizonica
An evergreen tree of the cypress family. It occurs naturally in the United States and Mexico. Unpretentious tree up to 21 meters tall with dense needles. The bark of young shoots is gray and the leaves are thinly pointed, pale or gray-green. The bark of old shoots is dark brown and peels off in long narrow fibers. Cones up to 2.5 cm in diameter.
Drought-resistant, frost-resistant. Tolerates frost even down to minus 25°C.
It has a heavier and more durable wood compared to other cypresses. Propagated by both vegetative cuttings and seeds. When propagated by seeds, if you use good agricultural technology, you can get plants 30-40 cm high with a well-developed root system in one growing season. A very beautiful tree, both in winter and in summer. Often used where evergreen cypress does not grow. Winter-hardy and frost-resistant, but young plants in the first two or three years of life must be covered for the winter in order to avoid partial freezing or complete death.
