Flamboyant Tree or Royal Poinciana / Delonix regia - this semi-evergreen tree grows up to 10 meters tall, with a wide umbrella-like crown. Its elegant bright green bipinnate leaves, 30–50 cm long, fold at night.

In Ukraine, it is grown as a houseplant. In spring and early summer, the tree is covered with large bright red flowers about 10 cm in diameter, grouped in large clusters. The flowers rival orchids in beauty, consisting of four red petals with a “stalk” and one larger upright petal with yellow and white spots. The trees ablaze with jewel-like flowers are a stunning sight lasting 1–2 months. Later, woody flat pods up to 60 cm long form, containing large seeds.

Delonix prefers direct sunlight, consistent warmth, and humidity. The soil should be loose and light with good drainage. It is tolerant of soil quality and can thrive across a wide pH range.

Delonix seeds have a very hard shell that must be scarified or softened (by pouring boiling water or acid) before soaking in warm water for 1–2 days. Before planting, the shell is removed. Viable and properly treated seeds usually germinate within 1–2 weeks; otherwise, germination may take several months.

It prefers a sunny location. Summer watering should be moderate and even. It can tolerate drought but will shed leaves. Plants grow and bloom best in areas with distinct dry and humid periods.

Fertilize every 2–4 weeks during active growth. Use a balanced compound fertilizer with an approximate NPK ratio of 10-10-10 for general growth and health, or one with higher phosphorus—such as 10-20-10—to stimulate flowering. No fertilizer is needed during dormancy (winter), especially if the plant sheds its leaves.

The soil should be very loose, well-drained, with added sand or perlite. Temperature should not drop below 3°C. Ideal conditions are 12–28°C.

Propagation is by seed. Scarify seeds, soak for a day in warm water, plant in a sandy mix, moisten, and germinate under bright light at 25–28°C.

Its common names include "flame tree" (one of several species given this name), peacock flower, royal poinciana, flamboyant, phoenix flower, flame of the forest.
