Flax, also known as common flax or linseed variety «Orpheus» (brown) / Linum usitatissimum - is an annual herbaceous plant, a species of plants of the genus Linen (Linum) of the Flax family (Linaceae), the variety was created by the method of individual selection from a hybrid combination.
The height of flax plants of the «Orpheus» variety is 55-58 cm. The duration of the growing season is 87-89 days.
The flower is medium size, blue. The seeds are moderate brown, the oil content in the seeds is 47.0-48.0%. In the soil, the seeds hatch at a temperature of 3-5ºС, germinate at 6ºС, however, to obtain friendly shoots, the soil must warm up to 10-12ºС. In this case, seedlings appear on the 7th day after sowing and are able to tolerate short-term frosts down to -4ºC.
Spring tillage is pre-sowing cultivation to a depth of seed placement (5-6 cm). In conditions of insufficient soil moisture, it must be combined with rolling for the smooth emergence of seedlings and increased yield. Seed placement depth is 4-5 cm.
Caring for flax crops is simple. At the beginning of the growing season, flax grows very slowly, so it requires clean areas, because on clogged ones, it is strongly inhibited by weeds, which negatively affects the harvest. An effective way to control weeds is the use of herbicides. In dry and hot weather, spraying is carried out in the morning and evening.
The crop makes good use of reserves of productive moisture from deep soil horizons and therefore tolerates drought relatively well before flowering. Precipitation during the flowering and seed filling period contributes to high yields.
Resistant to plant lodging and seed shedding.
The seeding rate - is 25 grams (bag) per 8 m2.
