Pine pitch or Pine rigid / Pinus rigida
Tree up to 31 meters in height, the trunk of which reaches 0.9 meters in diameter, with a rounded or irregular crown. The bark is red-brown, deeply furrowed, cracking into thick irregular scaly pieces. Young branches are reddish-brown, then darkening.
Buds are red-brown, resin-coated, ovoid, up to 1.5 cm. Needles persisting for 2-3 years. The needles are collected in bundles, usually 3, less often 5, up to 15 centimeters long, straight, various shades of yellow-green, the edges of the needles are serrated.
Male strobili are cylindrical, about 2 centimeters long, yellow. Female strobili are biennial, immature, conical or ovoid, then dehiscence and become broadly ovoid, red-brown or pale brown, 3-9 cm long. The scales are hard, with a pointed apex.
