Terry bellis «Etna» - a vibrant perennial, in our conditions it grows as a biennial crop. The crimson-red inflorescences resemble Christmas tree balls, scattered here and there by a child’s hand across the green foliage. Bellis look very elegant in the garden next to low-growing conifers or ferns.
However, they are appropriate everywhere and are recognized among gardeners all over the world. Unpretentious, easy to care for, blooming all summer, you will definitely like them.
Characteristics:
- bush height 10-20 cm;
- red basket flowers up to 2-6 cm in diameter;
- flowering from May to August, the next year after planting.
Anyone can grow bellis at home. Thanks to their low bushes and scarlet-colored “balls,” they become a universal crop. In a mixborder or border, they will shade and complement spring bulbous and flowering annuals, such as daffodils, hyacinths, pansies, asters, and marigolds. Planted in pots or flowerpots, they will give a cozy atmosphere to the balcony or terrace of the house. You can also make miniature bouquets from them.
Planting and care:
- bellis from seeds for seedlings have been grown in separate containers since March;
- to do this, they need to be evenly distributed over the surface of the universal substrate, sprinkled with 1-2 mm of earth, and then placed on the windowsill, not forgetting to moisten from time to time;
- at a temperature of +18-20 degrees, seedlings will appear in 7-14 days;
- transplanted into a flowerbed in the phase of a pair of leaves with a damp lump of earth, maintaining a distance of 20 cm between seedlings;
- bellis are sown in open ground in May, lightly sprinkled with soil and covered with film;
- the best conditions are sun or partial shade, loose fertile soils, moderate watering, fertilizing and removing dry inflorescences;
- for the winter it should be sprinkled with a layer of earth or leaves up to 10 cm.
