Magnolia kobus or mokryeon, or kobushi magnolia / Magnolia kobus - a species of flowering plants included in the genus Magnolia of the family Magnoliaceae. It is one of the most cold-resistant types of magnolias.
A deciduous tree 25-30 meters high, sometimes growing in a bushy manner, in youth with a narrow pyramidal crown, when fruiting with a rounded tent-shaped crown. The trunk is 60-70 centimeters in diameter, with rough, slightly furrowed, dark brown, brown or silver-gray bark. Young branches are yellow-green, covered with small hairs. Shoots glabrous, olive-brown, with occasional brown-red lenticels.
Growth buds are ovate-elongated, 1.2 cm long, 0.3 cm in diameter, shortly pubescent; flower buds ovate, truncated at the apex, 2.5 cm long, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, long, softly appressed pubescent. Leaves are broadly obovate, 10–12 cm long, 4–6 cm wide, suddenly shortly pointed at the apex, with a wedge-shaped base, intensely above, pale green below, first pubescent below, then glabrous on both sides, or pubescent along the veins below . The petiole is thin, up to 2.5 centimeters long.
The flowers are fragrant, milky white, 10-12.5 centimeters in diameter; perianth lobes 9, of which outer greenish, ovate-elongated, 1-1.5 cm long, 0.5 cm wide, rapidly falling, inner elongated-obovate, 6 cm long, 3 cm wide, white on the inside, on the outside - with a thin pinkish stripe. It begins to bloom in a few years, the flowering age is between 10 and 30 years.
The fruit is a cylindrical combined leaflet 8-12 centimeters long, at first it has a green color, later it takes on a red-brown color, bright crimson on the sunny side. The seeds are covered with a red shell.
Flowering in April - May, before the leaves appear. Fruiting in September - October.
